Mexico’s Jessica Audiffred Interview: Excision, Riot Ten, & Secret Gems

I Love Los Angeles, it has this VIBE that you can only find here!

What’s the first thing you do when you come to LA?
I mean there is so much art, music, and bomb food I go to In n Out. I go to Fairfax Ave and buy all of the SWAG I can.

So many Festival bookings & your name is on them all, Global Dance Festival, Bass Canyon, Wobbleland and now DEJA VOOM! What festival are you most excited about this year?

All of them cause the US territory is still pretty new &fresh to me, so I’m happy to be considered in all of these amazing festivals!

Any big plans for Bassnectar’s DEJA VOOM festival, What are you expecting for that tropical festival curated by Bassnectar?

DEJA VOOM is exactly the type of festival I was wanting to play for a long time! I love Bassnectar’s music &I think it goes with my type of dubstep and vibe. Plus it is at an amazing Mexican resort, what else could you ask for? Also, BORN I and I are doing
a collab so we want to present it there.

You are currently touring with Riot Ten and soon with Excision? How did that all happen?

I honestly don’t know hahaha!! I met Riot Ten at EDC Mexico and from there, he invited me to join his tour. With Excision, I just got an offer to play on a Back to Back set with him at Bass Canyon and I was in shock! I guess he really liked the remix I did for him and Dion Timmer’s track “Africa” so he invited me on his tour and I couldn’t be more grateful!

Tell us about that experience of dropping your “Africa” remix live at Bass Canyon with Excision?

It was beyond amazing. Back in the studio, I didn’t think it was going to sound like that; and when the drop hit and I saw Jeff’s expression on his face I was like oh my god, this is COOL.

Being a dubstep artist in 2020 is no joke especially as a female. How do you stay on top of the game in a male dominated industry? Have you seen more women inspired to DJ or produce?
It’s all about releasing music NONSTOP. I mean remixes, collabs, even mixtapes; everything helps. I do feel like now there are more females out there and it’s a blessing to have them at shows, not just hanging around with boys either. I’m inspired by a lot of females, watching other females craft, it’s always a good thing to see us learn from each other.

Sex has been a huge selling point sell in music, how do you balance being a badass female and still keep your image clean without selling sex?

I just don’t feel like I need to show anything. I respect girls who do that as well, but I don’t see it as a part of myself. I like to be comfortable & show people my music, not my skin. Also, I am a big fan of streetwear & to me, it’s really fun and a big part of my personality to show my taste in clothing cause I’m a really visual person, so I like to express that part of me as well.

Is it true that we might see an album dropping soon, is there any info on that?

Yes, I’m working on a bunch of music and an album is definitely in the works!

Tell us more about your record label!?

YES! It’s called ‘A RECORDS’ and it’s been out there for a little over three years. We’ve been releasing bass music from a lot of artists not just from Mexico. Some from Spain too, and I’m so happy for being able to help all of the amazing artists out there.

What are your plans with A-records, should we expect to discover more Mexican talent on your label or Women DJ/Producers? YES! Definitely, more Mexican acts that I’m hoping they can be playing festivals outside of Mexico real soon. I do have one Mexican girl that goes by, KEEL. She is dropping a bass house EP soon on the label and she is a super nice talent that is on the RISE.

Any undiscovered talent or secret hidden gems that you are loving right now that we should know about?

My Mexican gems right now are RVMDON, UNDERBITE, KEEL, MALW4RE, DIZZO, KEPLER & YOUTH IN CIRCLES. MAKE SURE TO CHECK THEM OUT.

And to wrap it up, EDC Mexico. We didn’t see you on the EDC Mexico Lineup this year, but we know how much that event means to you. Can you tell the people about your favorite parts of EDC Mexico?

EDC Mexico is so special to me. I started playing at the Boombox Art Car a few years ago, and last year, I got to close Wasteland Stage passing through mainstage which was insane. This year I got to play in LA and San Diego instead with RIOT TEN and it was amazing! hopefully next year I’ll be at EDC MEXICO.
